The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria has unveiled plans for its 19th Annual Banking and Finance Conference, aiming to generate actionable policy frameworks to bolster the country’s financial sector against ongoing macroeconomic disruptions.

The flagship event, scheduled for 8 and 9 September 2026, at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, is themed ‘Building a Resilient Economy in an Era of Disruptions: Strategic Imperatives for the Banking and Financial Services Industry.’

Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja on Sunday, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, Mr Moruf Oseni, who serves as the Chairman of the Consultative Committee for the conference, stated that this year’s gathering was structured to translate high-level discussions into concrete policy outcomes.

He said, “We have curated what is set to be the biggest edition of the CIBN Annual Banking and Finance Conference in years, and by biggest, I am not just speaking about size.

“What we have curated is a strategic fusion of insightful business sessions, bespoke youth-focused and cybersecurity programmes, and a wealth of solution-driven discussions.”

He emphasised that resolutions from the summit would be collated into an official communiqué and submitted directly to fiscal and monetary regulatory bodies to enable informed decision-making and policy alignment with global best practices.

For the first time in its 19-year history, the conference will feature a dedicated women-focused track designed to highlight female leadership in driving sustainable economic growth.

“For the first time ever, the conference will feature a women-focused programme that will bring to focus the role women play in building a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready economy,” Oseni noted, adding that the focus aligned with efforts to empower key demographic groups, including small and medium-scale enterprises and youth.

The two-day summit is expected to bring together top government officials and key financial leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Olayemi Cardoso.

The CIBN President and Chairman of Council, Dr Dele Alabi, will host the gathering alongside corporate executives, technology providers, and development partners from across the financial services ecosystem.
