Nigerian reality star and comedian Aderombi Adedayo, popularly known as DeeOne, has formally honored an invitation from the Nigeria Police Force’s Intelligence Department (FID) following a series of public allegations. The comedian, who disclosed the summons on Monday via a social media broadcast, characterized the move by security agencies as a targeted action. Despite expressing significant concerns regarding the nature of the inquiry, he confirmed his intent to cooperate, stating, “My invitation was politically motivated. And let it be clear, Nigeria police and Nigerian army stay away from politics.”
The invitation, which was officially described by the authorities as a “fact-finding interview” and part of an “ongoing inquiry,” follows controversial commentary made by the entertainer regarding recent public events. Before reporting to the FID Annex Office in Lagos, DeeOne alleged that he had been trailed by security personnel and voiced a defiant stance against what he perceived as intimidation. “Nobody should beg for me. You have to fight for your rights in this country,” the comedian remarked, adding that he would face whatever consequences arose from his appearance at the station.
While the police have maintained that the summons is a routine procedure, the comedian’s legal representatives have echoed his sentiments regarding the timing of the interview. DeeOne insisted that his actions remained within the bounds of his rights as a citizen, further noting, “If this will be my last video on earth, no problem. No be today police brutality don dey happen.” The comedian has promised to provide the public with further updates as the investigation progresses, while reiterating his refusal to apologize for his personal views.
