President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed key members of his economic team to urgently develop measures aimed at cushioning Nigerians from the worsening economic hardship triggered by the ongoing U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran.
The directive was issued during a civic reception in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, where the President acknowledged the growing strain the international crisis is placing on Nigeria’s economy—particularly through rising fuel prices and cost-of-living pressures.
Tinubu specifically tasked the Ministers of Finance and Budget and Economic Planning, alongside the Head of the Civil Service, to work collaboratively on immediate interventions that can ease the burden on citizens. The move signals growing concern within the Federal Government over the ripple effects of global geopolitical tensions on domestic economic stability.
Speaking at the event, the President admitted that Nigerians are already feeling the pinch, especially from surging energy costs. He noted that while the crisis is external, its consequences are directly impacting everyday life, making government intervention necessary.
He reassured citizens that his administration remains committed to mitigating the hardship, stressing that efforts are underway to align fiscal and administrative policies with current global realities. The planned measures are expected to focus on stabilising prices, supporting vulnerable groups, and maintaining economic resilience amid uncertainty.
The development comes as global oil market disruptions linked to the Middle East conflict continue to push up fuel prices, contributing to inflationary pressures in Nigeria and other economies.
