The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions) have officially suspended their nationwide strike action effective Sunday, May 11, following a renewed agreement with the Federal Government over salary adjustments and unpaid allowances.
The decision was announced after a series of negotiations between union leaders and representatives of the Federal Government, aimed at resolving lingering disputes affecting non-academic staff across federal universities and allied institutions nationwide.
According to union officials, the agreement includes commitments by the government to begin implementing revised salary structures, clear outstanding earned allowances, and address welfare concerns raised by members during the industrial action.
The strike, which disrupted administrative activities in many public universities, had sparked concerns among students and parents over possible delays to academic calendars and campus operations. With the suspension now in effect, workers have been directed to resume duties immediately while both unions continue to monitor the government’s compliance with the terms of the agreement.
Union leaders noted that the suspension was reached in the interest of stability within the education sector but warned that failure by the government to fulfill its promises could trigger further action in the future.
