Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr has officially declared that she has relocated to New York City, a move she says is part of her plan to strengthen and expand her global music career.

The 23-year-old award-winning singer revealed that she has lived in the American city for almost two months. According to her, the decision was influenced by both personal comfort and professional opportunities.

She explained that New York’s vibrant cultural scene makes it an ideal place for creativity, collaborations, and international exposure.

Speaking during a recent video interview, Ayra Starr noted that the transition has been easier than expected because New York reminds her strongly of Lagos, the city where she grew up.

She described both cities as fast-paced, energetic, and full of life, saying they share a similar rhythm that made her feel instantly connected.

Ayra Starr also highlighted the strong presence of Nigerians and other Africans in New York.

She said the large African diaspora community provides her with a sense of belonging, even while being far from home.

“New York reminds me so much of Lagos, so it feels like home,” she said. “There are a lot of Nigerians here. There’s a huge African diaspora here, so I feel comfortable and welcomed.”

The singer, who continues to gain international recognition, believes that living in New York will help her tap into new audiences, work with global producers, and participate in more international music events.

Fans have already begun to celebrate her bold move, calling it another step toward achieving even greater heights in her career.
