Remita, a leading financial technology company with more than two decades of experience serving financial institutions, fintech ecosystem, businesses, government, and individuals has unveiled its new mobile application at the Nigeria Fintech Week 2026 (NFW26), held at the Wole Soyinka Centre, Iganmu, Lagos, on Tuesday, September 22; a major move into the consumer financial market.

The new app brings multi-banking, everyday payments and money-management together in one place, giving users a simpler way to manage their finances from a single platform. It builds on Remita’s more than two decades of experience in digital payments and extends the company’s offering to meet the wider financial needs of consumers.

Speaking at the launch, ‘DeRemi Atanda, Managing Director, Remita, said the new app represents a significant step in the company’s move into the consumer and retail space.
“We have been in the business of making everyday payments easier for people for over 20 years, and this represents a landmark for us as we move boldly into the consumer and retail space. While other platforms innovate around products, we are innovating the ecosystem bringing everybody together to serve the customer’s full financial life. There has been a lot of learning about what people want, and we are bringing that experience into the Remita App to change how people manage their finances. This is well beyond payments. This is a transformation of lifestyle, an expansion of access to financial services and greater ease.”

The Remita App enables users to manage multiple bank accounts through participating financial institutions and access everyday financial services, including local and pan-Africa transfers, recurring payments, shares and stocks investment, a loans marketplace for retail credit, local and international flight tickets, event tickets and intelligent management of personal funds. These are in addition to bills and utilities payments, micro-pensions, and other financial services.

The one-app proposition responds to a common reality of consumers who use different banks and platforms for different purposes. The Remita App enables them to continue what they have been doing and even more from a single app.

Adedayo Adewale, Head, Remita Consumer and Retail Business, said the product was developed in response to the fragmented way many customers currently manage their finances.

“One of the challenges we have responded to is that individuals in Nigeria have fragmented financial services. Today, they have different apps for different needs but would rather do away with the stress of moving between multiple applications. They want to be able to start and complete their financial transactions from one place. We wanted to give Nigerians an everyday financial companion, not just another mobile app. From one platform, users can see their bank accounts, transfer funds, buy airtime and data, pay electricity bills, make government and merchant payments, and set up recurring payments among other things,” She noted.

Beyond payments, the app provides users with tools to manage their finances, including budgeting, expense tracking and financial responsibility visibility. This capability leverages Remita’s deep AI play to provide customers with a new and refreshing experience.

The app also extends Remita’s reach beyond domestic transactions through its cross-border payment capabilities across Africa. Through partnership with the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS), users will be able to securely debit any of their local bank accounts and transfer funds to accounts in other African countries directly from the Remita App. This gives consumers a way to make cross-border payments without having to leave the app or use a separate platform, extending the same connected experience to financial transactions across African markets.

For Remita, the move into the consumer market represents the next phase of a business that has spent more than two decades supporting payments for organisations and institutions. The company currently processes more than ₦100 trillion in transactions annually, largely driven by corporate payments, and is now taking that experience into the consumer market.

‘DeRemi Atanda, the MD said “Our vision when we started was to make it easier for organisations to make diverse payments. Having learned over the years, it became clear that the next phase was to take that experience to consumers. We currently process more than ₦100 trillion every year, largely driven by corporate payments. As we enter the consumer space, we expect to see significant adoption in the months ahead”.

At the NFW26 event, Mr. Atanda also delivered a keynote address examining the evolution of Nigeria’s payment ecosystem and the forces that will shape the next decade, with a focus on digital adoption, infrastructure, resilience, cross-border payments, regulation and cooperation.

“Having come this far, my hypothesis is that the next decade will reward ecosystems that convert digital adoption into trusted, resilient infrastructure. The infrastructure we are talking about will almost become invisible. They are not going to be the bridges you see or the roads; they are going to be the systems that support how we live and transact. Growth alone is no longer the measure of success. We will begin to define it in terms of impact, while resilience will be a shared investment because we are all connected.”

He further noted the growing role of payment infrastructure in supporting wider economic activity and the importance of extending this infrastructure across borders.

“Payment infrastructure has become fiscal infrastructure. Over the last decade, we have seen enormous growth in instant payments, terminals, agent networks and financial inclusion, and these developments have changed the way money moves in Nigeria. The next step is taking that infrastructure beyond local transactions and into cross-border payments funded from local bank accounts. That is where technology, regulation and cooperation have to continue moving together.”

The launch of the new app marks a new chapter in Remita’s consumer proposition, moving the company beyond its established role in payments and giving consumers more ways to manage their financial lives from one platform.

The company will continue to expand its offering through its ecosystem of banking and financial partners, adding new capabilities and services as the consumer proposition grows, giving users more ways to manage their money and financial activities in one place.
