The Association of Resident Doctors at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH-ARD) has suspended its indefinite strike, which began on 11 September, following mediation by the Lagos State deputy governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.
In a statement posted on the association’s X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, the group’s public relations officer, Tope Omotoyinbo, said the suspension takes effect from yesterday, and will last for 10 weeks.
“The decision of Congress follows the intervention and mediation of His Excellency, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Lagos State, towards resolving the issues that necessitated the industrial action,” the statement read.
According to the association, the suspension was taken in good faith and based on assurances given during the mediation process.
“Congress has taken this step in good faith and in reliance on the integrity of the mediation process, the commitments reached, and the assurances given in the course of these engagements,” the statement added.
The resident doctors listed key demands expected to be addressed during the suspension period, including the implementation of the Specialist Allowance for doctors on Grade Level 14, payment of outstanding promotion and advancement arrears, further consideration of revised Professional Allowance Table (PAT) arrears, and clarification of the applicable salary structure.
“The Association therefore looks forward to the full and timely implementation of the agreed commitments within the suspension period,” the statement added.
LASUTH-ARD also expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government and the Deputy Governor for facilitating the resolution, as well as to its members and the public for their patience and support.
