The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, as public holidays to mark the Easter celebration, calling on citizens to embrace the core values associated with the season.
In a statement issued by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the government emphasized the importance of Easter as a period for deep reflection, compassion, and national unity. He urged Nigerians to use the holiday to demonstrate selflessness, love, and tolerance in their daily interactions.
The minister noted that the message of Easter, rooted in sacrifice and hope, remains critical in fostering peace and cohesion across the country. He encouraged citizens to extend kindness to one another, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences, stressing that such virtues are essential for national development.
While congratulating Christians across Nigeria on the successful observance of the Lenten season, Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens during the holiday period. He also called for continued prayers for the nation’s peace, stability, and progress.
Security agencies, according to the ministry, have been directed to maintain vigilance and ensure that Nigerians can celebrate the Easter festivities in a peaceful and secure environment.
