The Nigerian Army on Friday held a valedictory ceremony in Lagos to formally pull out 10 retired generals of the Army Finance Corps, marking the end of their active military service and celebrating decades of contribution to the institution.
The ceremony, held at a military facility in the state, featured traditional pull-out rites, parades and tributes from senior officers, family members and colleagues. The retirees were honoured for their roles in managing the Army’s financial systems and supporting operational effectiveness across different commands.
Speaking at the event, a senior Army official said the Finance Corps officers had played a critical role in sustaining military operations through prudent financial management. “These generals served with integrity, discipline and professionalism, ensuring that resources were properly managed in support of national defence,” he said.
The Chief of Army Staff, represented at the ceremony, described the retirees as exemplars of service and dedication. “Their commitment strengthened accountability and efficiency within the Nigerian Army,” he said. “They leave behind a legacy that younger officers must uphold.”
One of the retired generals, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, expressed gratitude to the Army and their families for years of support. “We served Nigeria to the best of our ability, often behind the scenes, ensuring that the Army remained financially resilient,” he said. “We are proud of what we have contributed to the institution.”
The pull-out parade included the traditional lowering of flags and a symbolic march by the retirees, signifying their transition from active service to civilian life. Emotional moments were observed as officers exchanged farewells with former subordinates and peers.
Army officials said the retirement of the generals was in line with established service regulations and part of routine leadership renewal. They urged serving officers to emulate the professionalism and discipline demonstrated by the retirees throughout their careers.
The ceremony concluded with a reception in honour of the retired generals, as the Army reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strong institutional values and effective financial stewardship.
