Renowned ARISE News anchor and analyst, Chiogo Constance Ikokwu, has announced her decision to dump the newsroom for politics, marking a bold transition from journalism to public service.
Dr. Ikokwu revealed she is taking a leave of absence from Arise News as she prepares to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives, representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency.
Explaining her decision, she described the move as a continuation of her commitment to national development, but on a different platform. She noted that her years in journalism—holding leaders accountable and amplifying citizens’ voices—have given her deep insight into Nigeria’s governance challenges.
“This transition is, for me, a continuation of service,” she said. “My experience has reinforced my belief that informed, ethical leadership is essential to progress.”
She emphasized that her direct engagement with everyday Nigerians has exposed her to both the strengths and shortcomings of public policy, strengthening her resolve to contribute to meaningful change from within the system.
Dr. Ikokwu also used the moment to encourage more professionals to step into politics, stressing that governance should not be left solely in the hands of career politicians. According to her, individuals with integrity, competence, and fresh perspectives must be willing to take active roles in shaping the nation’s future.
Describing the current period as a defining moment for Nigeria, she called for courage and collective responsibility among citizens who seek lasting change.
Her move highlights a growing trend of professionals transitioning into politics, bringing real-world experience and policy awareness into leadership spaces.
