Former Patrice Evra has urged Manchester United to make a strong move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen during the summer transfer window, describing the forward as the ideal signing for the Red Devils.
Osimhen, currently playing for Galatasaray, has been repeatedly linked with several Premier League clubs over the years, but a move to England has yet to materialize. The 27-year-old has continued to impress throughout his career, winning the Serie A title with Napoli before enjoying a prolific spell in Turkey, where he has scored 59 goals in 74 appearances for Galatasaray.
Speaking to GOAL in association with Stake, Evra said Manchester United still need more attacking depth despite the arrival of Benjamin Sesko in 2025. He stressed that top clubs competing across multiple competitions require several quality strikers.
Evra said Osimhen possesses the qualities capable of transforming United’s attack and believes the Nigerian forward can make a major impact at Old Trafford. He also pointed out that the club needs reinforcements in defence and midfield, especially with veteran midfielder Casemiro expected to leave.
Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha also backed a potential move for Osimhen, describing him as a “transformational signing.” Saha praised the Nigerian’s leadership, experience across Europe, and ability to thrive under pressure, citing his role in helping Napoli win their first Serie A title in more than three decades.
Another United legend, Rio Ferdinand, had previously encouraged the club to pursue Osimhen before the striker eventually joined Galatasaray in 2025.
Although Sesko managed 12 goals in his debut season at Manchester United, reports suggest manager Michael Carrick still wants additional firepower as the club prepares for a return to UEFA Champions League football next season.
