Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, is expected to attend the closing ceremony of the 3rd National Para Games scheduled to hold today at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
The event marks the conclusion of days of intense sporting competition among para-athletes drawn from across the federation, showcasing resilience, talent, and the growing development of disability sports in Nigeria. The National Para Games, now in its third edition, has continued to serve as a platform for identifying and nurturing athletes for international competitions, including the Paralympics.
Officials from the National Sports Commission have described this year’s edition as one of the most competitive yet, with increased participation from states and improved organization. Events featured in the games include athletics, wheelchair basketball, para-powerlifting, table tennis, and other adapted sports.
The presence of the First Lady is seen as a strong show of support for inclusivity and the empowerment of persons with disabilities. Her participation is also expected to highlight the importance of government and private sector investment in para-sports development.
Athletes who distinguished themselves during the games are expected to be honoured at the closing ceremony, with medals and recognition awards presented to outstanding performers. Some of these athletes are likely to form part of Nigeria’s contingent in upcoming international para-sport competitions.
Organisers have reiterated their commitment to sustaining the games as a biennial event, noting that it plays a crucial role in promoting equal opportunities in sports and fostering national unity. The closing ceremony is expected to feature cultural displays, award presentations, and goodwill messages from dignitaries in attendance.
