Nigeria’s Super Eagles will confront Mozambique’s Mambas in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, following the completion of the group stage on New Year’s Eve.

Nigeria topped Group C with a perfect record of nine points, securing victories in all three matches, including a 3-1 win over Uganda in their final group fixture.

Goals from Paul Onuachu and a brace by Raphael Onyedika highlighted Nigeria’s dominant campaign under coach Eric Chelle.

Mozambique advanced as one of the four best third-placed teams, finishing third in Group F behind Ivory Coast and Cameroon.

The Mambas earned their knockout spot with a resilient performance, including a notable 3-2 victory over Gabon earlier in the tournament.

Their progression was confirmed after a 2-1 loss to Cameroon in the group’s decisive match.

The matchup pits Nigeria, runners-up in the 2023 edition, against a Mozambique side making a rare appearance in the knockout stage.

The Super Eagles are heavy favourites, boasting stars like Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, while Mozambique will rely on their counter-attacking threat and team spirit to cause an upset.

The Round of 16 match is scheduled for January 5, 2026, at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, with kick-off at 8:00 PM local time (7:00 PM GMT). Nigeria will aim to extend their strong form as they bid for a fourth continental title in Morocco.
