Users of devices running Android are being urged to install the latest updates after a serious security vulnerability was discovered that could allow hackers to take control of phones without any user action.
The flaw, identified by Google as CVE-2026-0073, has been rated “critical” due to its ability to enable remote code execution. What makes it especially dangerous is its “zero-click” nature, meaning attackers do not need victims to click links or download anything for the exploit to work.
According to security experts, the vulnerability exposes a system-level interface that should not have been accessible, making it similar to techniques used in advanced spyware attacks. Because there are no obvious warning signs, users may not even realize their devices have been compromised.
To stay protected, Android users are strongly advised to:
Check for and install the latest system updates immediately
Ensure automatic updates are enabled
Keep apps and security patches up to date
Updates are expected to roll out first to Pixel devices, with other manufacturers like Samsung following shortly after.
The key takeaway: this is not a threat you can avoid through careful browsing alone—updating your phone is the most important defense.
