Chess master Tunde Onakoya defeats US national chess master in GWR attempt

Nigerian chess master Tunde Onakoya has beaten US national chess master, Shawn Martinez after a 5-hour match in his Guinness World Record attempt.

Engaging in a 58-hour-long individual Chess Marathon, Tunde has been playing for 17 hours straight and hasn’t lost a single game yet.

The marathon is happening in New York City’s famous Times Square. Tunde started playing on April 17th and plans to finish on April 19th.

He is endeavoring to surpass the existing Guinness World Record set by Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad of Norway in 2018, who endured an impressive 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds of play.

The outpouring of support for Tunde transcends geographical boundaries, with Nigerians globally rallying behind their compatriot.

From prominent politicians like Yemi Osibanjo to renowned entertainment figures such as Tony Elumelu, Adekunle Gold, and Funke Akindele, a chorus of encouragement resonates throughout Times Square and beyond.
