As BSN celebrates national Bible Day May 5, value of the gift of God to humanity

The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) is set to celebrate this year’s national Bible Day on May 5, 2024.

The day, which has been set aside to celebrate the gift of the Bible, is to enable Nigerians reflect on and imbibe the values prescribed by the Holy Bible.

Samuel Sanusi, General Secretary/CEO, BSN, in a statement signed by Benjamin Mordi, Manager, Media & PR of BSN, said that Nigeria’s socio-economic and security challenges will be greatly reduced if people adopt and live by godly values prescribed by the Bible.

Sanusi disclosed that it will be ideal to set a day aside to celebrate the Bible, which he described as a gift from God to humanity and pray for the peace, prosperity, and well-being of the nation.

According to him, the Bible Society of Nigeria invites everyone to participate in the national Bible Day celebration on May 5, 2024, through studying, meditating, reflecting on and living by the standards of the word of God.

National Bible Day is celebrated annually across Nigeria by churches, schools, and other Christian organisations. “It is an opportunity to highlight the importance of the Bible and encourage its study and application in our daily lives.”

According to the statement, the BSN is a not-for-profit interdenominational Christian organisation that translates the Bible into Nigerian languages, publishes, and distributes the Holy Scriptures, as well as raises funds for Bible work and executes programmes that help people to engage with the word of God to transform their lives.

“So far, we have the full Bible in 27 Nigerian languages with ongoing Bible translation/revision projects in 10 (ten) Nigerian languages at their respective stages of completion. It costs the organisation a minimum of ₦120,000,000.00 to complete a Bible translation project if achieved in eight years,” the statement reads.
