Mayor Akinpelu, the 65-year-old respected publisher behind Global Excellence magazine, has publicly shared his intense struggle with prostate cancer, calling the experience nothing short of “hell.”
In a candid Facebook post on Monday, the prominent media figure revealed that his health crisis was so severe that it prevented him from attending his own Excellence Recognition Awards ceremony, which took place on Sunday, May 18.
“For two weeks, I was in the valley of the shadow of death. So sick was I that I couldn’t attend my Excellence Recognition Awards ceremony,” Akinpelu disclosed in his heartfelt message to followers.
The publisher underwent treatment at two Lagos medical facilities – Reddington Hospital in Ikeja and The Prostate Clinic on Victoria Island. Despite describing the treatment period as witnessing “hell,” Akinpelu emerged from the ordeal with renewed hope and health.
“While receiving treatment at Reddington Hospital, Ikeja and The Prostate Clinic, Victoria Island, I saw hell. But the storm is over. I thank the Most High for his mercy and grace. I’m back on my feet, healthy again,” he shared with evident relief.
Expressing deep gratitude for his recovery, Akinpelu credited divine intervention for his survival and voiced his determination to continue living purposefully. He ended his post with an uplifting reference to popular Fuji music, declaring his intention to live many more productive years.
The announcement has drawn an outpouring of support from the media community, with colleagues, admirers, and well-wishers filling his social media with encouraging messages and prayers. Akinpelu, a respected figure in Nigeria’s media landscape for decades, appears ready to resume his work with renewed vigor following this life-changing health scare.
