Tinubu, in Nasarawa, unveils key infrastructure projects, lauds governance discipline

He expressed gratitude to the women of Nasarawa for their resilience and devotions.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday inaugurated several major infrastructure projects executed by the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule in Nasarawa State, praising the governor’s fiscal discipline and strategic governance.

Arriving in Lafia, the state capital, to a warm reception, President Tinubu officially commissioned the iconic flyover and underpass located on Jos Road.

Commending the governor for effective resource management, he said, “It is a great honour for me to be here, feeling at home, feeling very welcomed, and to inaugurate this project. I salute the prudent management of resources, the commitment to value, and the vision demonstrated by the governor of our dear state.”

Governor Sule, in his address, attributed the state’s capacity to deliver such large-scale projects to the bold economic reforms introduced by President Tinubu’s administration.

“It is because of your reforms that we were able to fund this project completely — 100 percent — without borrowing a single naira. For that reason, we have named it the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Interchange,” the governor announced.

The President also commissioned the newly constructed state secretariat complex and expressed gratitude to the women of Nasarawa for their resilience and contributions to society.

“Women are the backbone of every thriving society,” he noted, commending the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman, for her dedication to improving women’s welfare.

In addition to infrastructure, the President was scheduled to distribute electric vehicles, tractors, and other logistics equipment to bolster the operations of security agencies, traditional institutions, and other sectors.

He also inaugurated the Uthman Dan Fodio Cargo Airport, a project aimed at boosting the state’s economic connectivity and regional trade.

During a town hall meeting with key stakeholders at the Government House Banquet Hall, Tinubu described Nasarawa as a microcosm of Nigeria, rich in diversity and potential.

“Nasarawa reflects the spirit of our national anthem — diverse people, culture, and prosperity. I am proud to be here. We’ve turned a corner as a nation. We’ve emerged from uncertainty. We’ve cut waste. The economy is stabilising,” he stated.

In a show of political support, Tinubu praised Governor Sule’s performance and urged residents to ignore opposition voices, describing them as “political IDPs.”

He said, “They triggered alley politics and coalition partitions. Don’t give them attention. This is your home — Sule is doing well. Whoever he brings forward, we’ll support for greater prosperity and renaissance in Nasarawa State.”

Governor Sule, in turn, expressed appreciation for the President’s economic policies, particularly the removal of petrol subsidies and the liberalisation of the foreign exchange market. He said these reforms have boosted state revenues and empowered subnational governments to deliver tangible development.

Highlighting gains in the mining sector and rising investor interest, Governor Sule called on the President to direct the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to resume oil exploration in Obi Local Government Area. “There is a discovery of hydrocarbon exceeding one billion barrels in Obi. We urge you, Your Excellency, to ensure the NNPCL returns for further drilling and appraisal so we can begin commercial oil production in that area.”
