    In a historic meeting, President Bola Tinubu and Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre committed to establishing formal diplomatic relations, fostering deeper ties in trade, culture, and education.

    Below are the highlights from their meeting:

    1. Commitment to Formal Diplomatic Relations: President Bola Tinubu and Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre pledged to establish formal diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Saint Lucia, aiming to strengthen bilateral engagement.

    2. Historical and Cultural Ties: Tinubu emphasized the shared history, culture, and resilience binding Nigeria and Saint Lucia, describing Saint Lucians as “valued friends and brothers.”

    3. Areas for Collaboration: Both leaders identified trade, investment, tourism, education, health, agriculture, and cultural exchange as key areas for enhanced cooperation.

    4. Support for Small Island Developing States (SIDS): Tinubu reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to supporting SIDS priorities, including climate change, disaster response, and development financing, in global fora.

    5. Cultural Exchange Potential: Pierre highlighted Saint Lucia’s global cultural festivals, like the Jazz and Arts Festival, and proposed sharing expertise with Nigeria’s film and music industries.

    6. Educational Cooperation: Pierre praised Nigeria’s educational legacy and expressed interest in deepening ties to support Saint Lucia’s goal of one university graduate per household.

    7. People-to-People Exchange: Both leaders underscored the potential for people-to-people exchanges to foster mutual understanding and cultural affinity.

    8. Global South Solidarity: Pierre stressed the need for Global South countries to consolidate relationships, with Nigeria playing a pivotal role in Saint Lucia’s African engagement.

    9. Commonwealth Collaboration: Discussions with Saint Lucia’s Governor-General highlighted Commonwealth membership as a platform for collaboration on climate change and socioeconomic challenges.

    10. Economic Opportunities: Tinubu expressed Nigeria’s readiness to boost trade and economic cooperation, particularly in agriculture, tourism, and manufacturing, to mutual benefit.
