Kwam 1 gets ambassadorial appoinment from FG after airport flight saga

Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, has been appointed an ambassador for airport security and passenger conduct by the Federal Government, following chaos incident on the ValueJet flight.

The announcement was made Wednesday by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, following consultations with aviation authorities and a review of recent passenger-related incidents, including those involving Kwam 1 and Comfort Emmanson.

Keyamo said the incidents, though regrettable, have highlighted the need for all travellers to adhere to airport rules and proper conduct.

The ValueJet drama occurred on August 5 when Kwam 1 allegedly refused to hand over a flask suspected to contain alcohol, insisting it held prescribed medication. The flight crew accused him of obstructing takeoff and removed him from the plane.

Formerly, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) filed a complaint and imposed a flight ban on the singer. After reviewing the case, the NCAA reduced his ban to one month, withdrew its criminal complaint earlier lodged with the police, and confirmed Kwam 1’s new role as an ambassador promoting compliance with airport regulations.

Two ValueJet pilots involved in the incident were also suspended for one month. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will collaborate with Kwam 1 in his new role, using the music star to educate travellers on proper airport security protocol.

Keyamo described the decisions as acts of compassion while reiterating that aviation safety and passenger discipline remain top priorities for the government.
