The Lagos State Government has reassured of its commitment to positioning the state as Africa’s premier tourism destination through its new flagship initiative, “101 Days in Lagos.”

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe, disclosed this during a meeting with the Pulse Africa team at the ministry’s conference room in Lagos on Tuesday.

According to him, the initiative is designed to showcase the state’s rich cultural heritage, empower young people, and create a vibrant entertainment and sports ecosystem that would attract both local and international visitors.

He said, “The ‘101 Days in Lagos’ initiative is a cultural mission. It is about promoting Lagos as a year-round destination, celebrating our heritage, empowering our youth, and positioning the state as Africa’s cultural powerhouse.”

Spanning September 26 to January 4, the project will feature cultural celebrations, entertainment shows, international sporting events, and hospitality-driven activities across the state.

Key programmes lined up include Skills Up Lagos for youth empowerment, cultural showcases, sports competitions, and landmark entertainment events in partnership with restaurants, venues, and cultural stakeholders.

Aregbe noted that the ministry’s agenda aligned with the broader vision of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to diversify the economy, highlight the state’s cultural narratives, and boost international tourism.

The ministry also revealed that the initiative would promote Lagos’ daytime economy, foster global cultural partnerships, and attract year-round visitors.

Aregbe stressed that the project marked a bold step in redefining Lagos’ tourism landscape, adding that the government was determined to make the state a hub for cultural and entertainment seekers across Africa.

On Wednesday, the state government announced plans to host the Lagos Cultural Weekend 2025 from November 14 to 16, a three-day festival designed to showcase the city’s rich traditions while driving economic opportunities.

In a similar development, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday unveiled a new blueprint for tourism development in the state, tagged “Tourism Reset Agenda”.

This was aimed at removing bottlenecks, attracting investors, and transforming the sector into a self-sustaining economy.
