MTV VMAs Awards Full List: Tyla shines as Afrobeats winner

The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) lit up New York on Sunday night with stars from across the globe taking home the coveted “Moon Person” trophies.
For Afrobeats, South Africa’s Tyla won Best Afrobeats Video with “Push 2 Start.” She beat Nigerian heavyweights Asake, Burna Boy, Rema, Tems, and Wizkid in what fans online are calling the toughest category of the night.
Other highlights included Ariana Grande scooping Video of the Year with Brighter Days Ahead and Lady Gaga emerging the biggest winner with four awards, including Artist of the Year. Sabrina Carpenter was also a triple winner, with Short n’ Sweet taking Album of the Year.
Mariah Carey, Busta Rhymes, and Ricky Martin were honoured with special career awards, each taking the stage for unforgettable performances.
The ceremony, hosted by LL Cool J, aired live from UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, across CBS, MTV, and Paramount+.
