FirstBank, Lagos collaborate for maiden E1 Powerboat Championship

First Bank of Nigeria Limited has declared its partnership with the organisers of the historic E1 Lagos GP, an all-electric powerboat racing championship scheduled to hold in Lagos from 3rd to 5th October 2025.
The announcement was made at the E1 Lagos GP Stakeholder Immersion Session in Lagos, where the Bank reiterated its commitment to supporting sports and developmental initiatives that inspire and unite Nigerians.
Speaking at the event, Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communication of FirstBank, said the partnership reflects the Bank’s dedication to human development and legacy-building.
“Our involvement in the E1 Lagos GP is about driving legacy and enabling the passions and aspirations that unite Nigerians. We are a bank that has been in business for over 131 years, and we recognize that sports drive us as a country.
“Through our First@Sports initiative, we continue to invest in platforms that inspire and elevate our people. For instance, we have supported legacy tournaments like the Georgian Polo Cup, which we have hosted for 105 years, and the Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship for 64 years,” Ijabiyi said.
Positioned at the start of the year’s final quarter, the championship also ties into FirstBank’s DecemberIssaVybe campaign, an annual initiative that curates unforgettable experiences blending culture, entertainment, and lifestyle during the festive season.
“FirstBank is deeply woven into the fabric of society and the lives of our customers. As presenting partner, we are creating meaningful touchpoints with customers and prospects, offering them a world-class experience of relaxation and celebration that captures the true essence of Lagos during the festive season,” Ijabiyi added.
Also speaking, Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, described the E1 Lagos GP as a landmark initiative that would boost not only sports but also the global profile of Lagos.
“This event will showcase Lagos’s vibrant culture, dynamic people, and international relevance. We commend FirstBank for lending their support to such a groundbreaking championship,” Omotoso said.
The Lagos GP is expected to draw global attention as it features teams owned by renowned stars such as Tom Brady, LeBron James, Didier Drogba, Will Smith, Marc Anthony, Steve Aoki, and Rafael Nadal. Lagos will serve as one of the major stops before the season finale in Miami, United States, later in 2025.
