5,200 women benefitted from empowerment worth N260m – Kano Govt

The Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Tuesday, empowered another batch of 5,200 women with N260 million under the state government’s empowerment programme.

The beneficiaries were selected from the state’s 44 local government areas.

Speaking at the occasion, Yusuf said the state government had introduced some measures to ensure that the money reached the targeted beneficiaries.

“Following the discovery of discrepancies in the disbursement during the first phase, we introduced measures to ensure the money reaches the targeted beneficiaries,” he said.

Some of the measures taken included the state government setting up a 20-member committee in each LGA, comprising traditional rulers, the LG chairman, the party chairman, among other members.

He called on the beneficiaries to utilise the funds by establishing small-scale businesses of their choice to improve their socio-economic status and that of their families.

According to him, the support is in fulfillment of the promise he made during the 2023 campaigns.

“We promised to support you in taking care of yourselves and your children. We pledged to make you self-reliant and to take care of your health, especially the health of pregnant women among you and children.

“Today we have fulfilled our promise. We will be doing this to the same number of women but with some modifications to ensure transparency and accountability,” he said.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, also cautioned the beneficiaries against misusing the funds, as they are meant to support them in improving their well-being.

A cross-section of the beneficiaries who spoke hailed the state government for the support.
