A Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, has ordered the remand of controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, following his arraignment on a nine-count criminal charge on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.

The charges, filed by the Ogun State Police Command, encompass allegations of conspiracy, assault occasioning harm, resisting arrest, and the theft of a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at N12 million. The prosecution alleged that the singer forcibly seized the vehicle from a dealer, Wally Dex Auto, after failing to complete the required payments. Furthermore, Portable is accused of assaulting his estranged partner, actress Akinyanju “Ashabi Simple” Omobolarinde, and a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, during a New Year’s Day confrontation at his bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area.

During the proceedings, the defendant entered a plea of not guilty to all counts. While his legal team moved for bail, the presiding judge declined the oral application, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court. The judge maintained that the officer’s presence was necessary before a decision on bail could be reached, noting that “the court must see and hear from the officer before any decision on bail could be made.” Consequently, the court ordered that the singer be remanded in custody pending a fresh hearing.

The legal action follows reports from the Ogun State Police Command that the singer had previously ignored multiple invitations to answer to petitions filed against him. The police presented evidence of the singer’s “volatile nature,” referencing viral social media footage of his altercations. In a separate development, the police have launched an investigation into another viral video that allegedly depicts Portable being assaulted while in detention. The matter has been adjourned to January 19, 2026, for the consideration of his formal bail application, during which time he will remain in correctional custody.
