Buckingham Palace and the Nigerian Presidency confirmed today that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted an invitation to undertake a State Visit to the United Kingdom, scheduled for March 18 and 19, 2026.
According to the confirmation, President Tinubu will be accompanied by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and will be formally hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle. The visit is expected to feature ceremonial engagements and high-level bilateral discussions.
The Presidency described the trip as historically significant, noting that it will be the first official State Visit by a Nigerian leader to the United Kingdom since 1989, marking a gap of 37 years. Officials said the visit reflects the long-standing diplomatic ties between both countries and the desire to deepen cooperation across key sectors.
A palace source said the King was “pleased to host the President and First Lady of Nigeria,” while Nigerian officials said the visit would provide an opportunity to advance dialogue on economic partnership, security cooperation and people-to-people relations.
Further details of the programme are expected to be released closer to the visit dates by both Buckingham Palace and the Nigerian Presidency.
