Governor Dauda Lawal Emerges APC Consensus Governorship Candidate For Zamfara 2027 Election

      May 22, 2026

Headline: Fubara Withdraws From Rivers APC Governorship Primaries, Cites Peace and Unity Paraphrase: Siminalayi Fubara has pulled out of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries ahead of the 2027 Rivers State election, saying his decision was driven by the need to preserve peace, stability, and unity in the state. In a statement he personally signed and sent to journalists, Fubara explained that the move followed deep reflection and consultations with family members, political associates, and supporters. He stressed that leadership sometimes requires personal ambition to be set aside for the broader interest of the people. The governor said Rivers State’s stability must come before any individual political goal, adding that his withdrawal should not be seen as weakness or surrender but as a deliberate sacrifice for unity and progress. Although he did not give full details, he hinted at underlying political pressures and tensions, noting that not every political issue is openly discussed. He also pledged support for whoever eventually emerges as the APC candidate in the primaries. Fubara expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and APC leaders for their support during the process, while reassuring his supporters that his commitment to serving Rivers State remains unchanged until the end of his tenure.

The Easter Praise and Prayer for Peace is an annual event organised by CAN in Sokoto State, bringing together Christians from Catholic, Protestant, Pentecostal, and Orthodox traditions.

Christians across Sokoto State on Monday gathered at the Deeper Life Bible Church for the annual Easter Praise and Prayer for Peace organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria, declaring hope amid insecurity and urging unity, sacrifice, and responsible leadership.

Delivering his address, the CAN Chairman in the state, Rev. Kayode James, said the resurrection of Jesus Christ remains a powerful reminder that “darkness can never overcome light,” even as communities grapple with insecurity and social tensions.

“Jesus is alive! The stone was rolled away, the tomb is empty, and death could not hold Him. That same resurrection power is at work in Sokoto State and across Nigeria today,” he said.

The cleric noted that the Easter gathering was more than a celebration, describing it as “a declaration of faith and a corporate cry for peace in our land.”

James commended Christian leaders across denominations for sustaining the faith in a challenging environment and emphasised the need for unity among believers.

“Your sacrifices, prayers, and leadership are not in vain. In a region where being a Christian sometimes comes at a cost, you have chosen to stand and declare that Jesus is alive,” he said.

He urged Christians to remain steadfast despite “instances of discrimination and persecution,” stressing that the resurrection message inspires courage and hope.

The CAN chairman did not shy away from the worsening security situation in parts of northern Nigeria, lamenting the impact of banditry, kidnapping, and violent attacks on both Christians and Muslims.

“Lives have been cut short, families displaced, and communities thrown into fear. Yet, even in this darkness, we remember that Jesus is the Prince of Peace,” he said.

He called on government and security agencies to intensify efforts in protecting lives and property.

“We urge authorities at all levels to act with greater commitment and wisdom. May God frustrate every plan of the enemy and restore peace to Sokoto State,” he added.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria in Sokoto State, Pastor Ben Musa, described the event as a unifying platform for Christians across the state.

“This annual gathering brings believers together under one umbrella. Our unity is paramount, and this meeting strengthens the bond of brotherhood,” he said.

Musa stressed that sacrifice remains central to national progress, drawing from the Easter message.

“Jesus laid down His life and rose again. If we must move forward as a people, we must embrace the spirit of sacrifice. Without sacrifice, we are going nowhere,” he said.

Addressing the security challenges, Musa outlined a three-fold solution: prayer, responsible governance, and active citizenship.

“First, we call for prayer. Second, the government must arise and fulfil its responsibility of protecting lives. Third, every citizen must be law-abiding and committed to nation-building,” he said.

The Chairman of the event’s planning committee, who is also PFN Northwest Regional Secretary, said the gathering drew participants from across churches and local government areas to pray for Nigeria.

“We thank God for the privilege to host this event again. Believers came together to pray for peace as we celebrate the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ,” he said.

He added that those unable to attend physically were carried along through media coverage and online streaming.

“Every Easter Monday is set aside for CAN to gather and pray. Those who could not make it should know they were part of our prayers,” he noted.

Despite prevailing tensions, speakers reiterated that Christianity promotes peace and coexistence.

“Christianity is a religion of peace. The message of the resurrection is peace and goodwill to all men. We must reflect that in our daily lives,” the PFN leader said.

The Easter Praise and Prayer for Peace is an annual event organised by CAN in Sokoto State, bringing together Christians from Catholic, Protestant, Pentecostal, and Orthodox traditions.

The gathering focuses on worship, intercession for national peace, and strengthening unity among believers.

This year’s theme, “Jesus Is Alive,” underscores the enduring message of hope and victory central to the Christian faith.

As the event concluded, participants renewed their commitment to peace, unity, and faith, expressing optimism that Nigeria will overcome its challenges.

“Because He lives, we can face tomorrow… peace will come to Sokoto State and Nigeria,” Rev. James affirmed.
