The Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, held strategic discussions today in Abuja with representatives of the United Nations aimed at finalizing new partnership agreements focused on women and youth empowerment across Nigeria.
The meeting centered on expanding ongoing collaboration between the Federal Government and the UN system in areas such as skills development, job creation, entrepreneurship support, and social inclusion programmes targeting vulnerable groups. Both parties reportedly reviewed existing frameworks and explored ways to scale up impact-driven initiatives.
According to officials familiar with the engagement, the renewed agreements are expected to strengthen access to funding, technical assistance, and capacity-building opportunities for women-led enterprises and youth-focused innovation programmes. The discussions also emphasized aligning these initiatives with Nigeria’s broader economic growth and human capital development agenda.
Vice President Shettima reiterated the administration’s commitment to inclusive development, noting that empowering women and young people remains central to national stability and long-term prosperity. He stressed the need for partnerships that translate into measurable outcomes at the grassroots level rather than symbolic commitments.
UN representatives reportedly expressed readiness to deepen cooperation with Nigeria, highlighting the country’s strategic role in regional development efforts. They also commended ongoing reforms aimed at improving youth engagement and gender inclusion policies.
The finalized agreements are expected to be rolled out in phases, with implementation plans to be jointly monitored by both the Nigerian government and relevant UN agencies.
