The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed no fewer than 40 facilities across Lagos State for violating noise pollution regulations, in a sweeping enforcement operation carried out on Monday.
The affected establishments, which include bars, nightclubs, religious centres, and event venues, were shut down after repeatedly exceeding permissible noise levels and failing to comply with environmental standards set by the state government.
According to LASEPA officials, the कार्रवाई forms part of an intensified crackdown aimed at restoring sanity in residential and commercial areas plagued by excessive noise. The agency noted that many of the sealed facilities had previously received warnings and abatement notices but failed to take corrective action.
Speaking on the development, LASEPA management reiterated that noise pollution remains a serious environmental and public health concern, contributing to stress, sleep disruption, and reduced quality of life for residents. The agency stressed that enforcement would be sustained, with no exemptions for defaulters regardless of status or influence.
Residents in several parts of Lagos have long complained about persistent noise disturbances, particularly from nightlife spots and places of worship operating beyond approved hours. Authorities say the latest action is in response to growing public outcry and is intended to deter further violations.
LASEPA urged business owners and organizations to adhere strictly to noise control guidelines, obtain necessary permits, and install soundproofing measures where required. It also encouraged residents to report violations through official channels, assuring that complaints would be promptly addressed.
The agency maintained that the enforcement drive is part of broader efforts by the Lagos State Government to promote environmental sustainability and improve living conditions in Africa’s largest city.
