… setting itself as a strategic platform for Nigerian businesses seeking opportunities beyond traditional markets.

Nigerian investors, professionals and entrepreneurs are being offered a new route into the Caribbean as Grenada moves to deepen economic ties with Africa through visa-free access, planned direct air links and an aggressive investment drive targeting sectors ranging from healthcare and agriculture to real estate and financial services.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos after a working visit to Grenada, the country’s Honorary Consul in Nigeria, Bidemi Sonoiki, said the Caribbean nation was positioning itself as a strategic platform for Nigerian businesses seeking opportunities beyond traditional markets.

“Today, Grenada presents a compelling opportunity for Nigerian investors and entrepreneurs looking to access new markets beyond Africa.

“We are witnessing the emergence of a strategic economic corridor between Africa and the Caribbean, one that offers immense opportunities for trade, investment, tourism, education and business growth,” Sonoiki said.

At the centre of the initiative is Grenada’s decision to grant visa-free access to Nigerians, a move expected to take effect from July and aimed at lowering barriers to business travel, investment exploration and educational exchange.

According to Sonoiki, discussions are also underway to establish direct air connectivity between Nigeria and the Caribbean within the next six months, a development he described as potentially transformative for trade and investment between both regions.

“Visa-free access removes a significant barrier to engagement. It enables Nigerian investors, business owners and professionals to explore opportunities in Grenada more easily and creates a stronger foundation for commercial cooperation,” he said.

On the proposed flight corridor, he added: “Connectivity is one of the most important enablers of economic growth. Establishing direct links between Nigeria and the Caribbean would unlock enormous opportunities for trade, investment and tourism while positioning Grenada as a strategic gateway for African businesses seeking access to Caribbean markets.”

Sonoiki said the opportunities being promoted extended beyond large-scale investors to skilled professionals, entrepreneurs and small businesses seeking international expansion.

The sectors identified for immediate engagement include tourism, healthcare, agriculture, agro-processing, logistics, education, fintech, renewable energy and real estate.

“We want Nigerian investors to see Grenada not simply as a Caribbean destination, but as a strategic business platform.

“The opportunities span tourism, real estate, healthcare, agriculture, education, fintech, logistics and renewable energy.

“For businesses seeking growth beyond traditional markets, Grenada offers access, stability and significant long-term potential,” he said.

The consul said relations between Nigeria and Grenada had accelerated since the establishment of the Grenadian Honorary Consulate in Lagos in 2022, resulting in increased diplomatic engagement, private-sector cooperation and the creation of the Nigeria-Grenada Chamber of Commerce.

He noted that the partnership was evolving beyond historical and cultural ties into a broader economic relationship focused on investment, innovation and sustainable development.

Grenada, known globally as the “Spice Isle” for its nutmeg and mace production, has in recent years diversified its economy through tourism, education, financial services and emerging industries.

The country also offers a stable parliamentary system, an investor-friendly business environment and membership of the Caribbean Community, providing access to wider Caribbean markets.

Sonoiki said the growing engagement comes as economic relations between Africa and the Caribbean gather momentum, creating opportunities for Nigerian businesses to establish an early presence in a region increasingly looking towards Africa for trade and investment partnerships.

“The future of Nigeria-Grenada relations is exceptionally promising.

“Our goal is to create a framework that enables businesses, investors and entrepreneurs from both countries to build meaningful partnerships, drive innovation and generate sustainable prosperity. The opportunities are real, and the time to engage is now,” he said.
