The Corporate Affairs Commission has commenced another round of enforcement against non-compliant companies, placing about 100,000 firms at risk of being struck off Nigeria’s companies register for failing to meet statutory filing obligations. Six months’ imprisonment could also be meted out for motorists who fail to cooperate with traffic laws. The Senate has passed the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026, significantly increasing penalties for traffic offences, including imposing a N50,000 fine on anyone caught hawking, trading or preaching in commercial buses. The amendment, which is awaiting presidential assent, also prescribes a N50,000 fine or six months’ imprisonment, or both, for motorists who fail to cooperate with FRSC officials during roadside breath tests conducted on reasonable suspicion. An Abuja High Court in Apo has ordered the final forfeiture of billions of naira worth of assets linked to businesswoman, Aisha Achimugu, in favour of the Federal Government. The order was issued on Thursday, July 16, 2026, by Justice Jude Onwugbuzie following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which sought the permanent forfeiture of the assets.
