The Nigerian digital space has been roiled by a bitter public exchange between popular streamer and skit maker Oderhohwo Joseph Efe, known as Carter Efe, and his partner, Emmanuella. The conflict, which unfolded across social media on Sunday, January 11, and Monday, January 12, 2026, has seen both parties level serious allegations involving physical abuse, financial abandonment, and domestic control.
The controversy began when Carter Efe took to Instagram to announce that he had been “single for over a year,” claiming that his relationship with Emmanuella had derailed his career and mental health. The streamer alleged that the separation left him “emotionally drained and financially unstable,” leading to a nearly two-year struggle with content creation. He further claimed that Emmanuella had kept him away from their daughter, Charis, for three months and only attempted to reconnect after his recent record-breaking success on Twitch. “You left me for good 5 months only to come and see that I’m the biggest streamer in Africa,” he wrote, adding that the relationship’s end marked a positive turning point for his professional growth.
In a swift rebuttal, Emmanuella dismissed the claim of a year-long separation as “false,” alleging that the pair had been physically intimate as recently as three days prior. She accused the content creator of a systematic pattern of abuse and isolation, claiming she had been subjected to physical violence even during her pregnancy. “My pregnancy journey was hell. Carter would hit me regardless of my condition, which made me a regular at this particular hospital,” she stated. Emmanuella further alleged that Carter Efe had forced her to abandon her aspirations of becoming an actress and blocked her from maintaining contact with friends and family to prevent her from seeking help.
The dispute has also centered on financial neglect. While Carter Efe cited the relationship as a drain on his finances, Emmanuella countered by claiming he provides no financial support for their child. She alleged that she is forced to “beg” for assistance and that Carter Efe had threatened to use his platform to destroy her reputation. “He called me this morning and told me he was about to post something calling me a prostitute and that he would make sure I never post myself ever again,” she wrote in her statement.
As the accusations continue to trend, the public remains divided, with some supporters citing Carter Efe’s recent streaming milestones as proof of his professional recovery, while others express grave concern over the detailed allegations of domestic violence. Neither party has yet indicated if legal proceedings or a formal police report will follow these public disclosures.
