A court in Lagos has sentenced three individuals for assaulting officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline, in a ruling that underscores the state government’s zero-tolerance stance toward attacks on law enforcement personnel.
The incident, which reportedly occurred during a routine enforcement operation, saw the KAI officials obstructed and physically attacked while carrying out their duties. The offenders were subsequently arrested and charged to court, where they were found guilty and handed custodial sentences.
Legal authorities noted that the judgment serves as a deterrent to others who may attempt to resist or attack government agents enforcing environmental and public order laws. The court emphasized the need to respect constituted authority and allow officials to perform their responsibilities without fear or intimidation.
The Lagos State government has repeatedly warned against violence toward its enforcement agencies, particularly KAI officers who are tasked with maintaining sanitation, orderliness, and compliance with state regulations. Officials say assaults on personnel not only undermine public safety but also disrupt efforts to keep the city organized.
Residents have been urged to cooperate with enforcement teams and seek lawful channels to address grievances, as the state continues its broader crackdown on indiscipline and violations of public order laws.
