Nigeria has officially activated its roadmap for a month-long cultural residency in Canada as part of the AFROVISION X 2026 global showcase. Led by Inspiro Productions in collaboration with Grandieu Inc., the project has entered its “Activation Phase,” running from January through May, during which organizers are hosting stakeholder engagements with both public and private sectors in Lagos. This preliminary phase is designed to establish participation guidelines for the designers, filmmakers, and performers who will form the official Nigerian delegation. Lead Convener David Bebiem has characterized the initiative as a “global marketplace,” emphasizing that the residency is a strategic vehicle to connect Nigerian talent with international trade and investment opportunities.
The residency is scheduled to take place from June 1 to June 30, 2026, across the Greater Toronto Area, including Toronto, Brampton, and Mississauga. This timing is intentional, as organizers noted it “coincides with the global World Cup period, ensuring maximum international visibility for the African participants.” Ayoola Sadare, CEO of Inspiro Productions, stated that the objective is to secure bilateral agreements and sustainable growth for the Nigerian creative economy. To support this mission, the team is currently mobilizing resources to establish a “Nigerian House” in Ontario, which will serve as the hub for the nation’s cultural diplomacy throughout the month of June.
The residency program will feature a rigorous schedule of thematic showcases, beginning with a “Journey Through Africa” opening ceremony and a dedicated Fashion Week from June 3 to June 7. The month will continue with specialized festivals for film, visual arts, and theatre, alongside a World Music Week expected to draw significant global attention. Nigerian creatives are currently undergoing a selection process in Lagos based on “World Class Standards” to ensure the delegation is prepared for the high-profile Canadian stage. As the June residency approaches, the Inspiro Productions stakeholder desk remains the primary point for finalizing the roster of artists and brands set to represent the country in Ontario.
