The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results for Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3) students across Nigeria.

The exam, which took place between May 12 and May 23, had 179,201 candidates who sat for papers in 12 core subjects.

In a statement issued from NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State, the council’s spokesperson, Mr. Azeez Sani, confirmed the release of the results, following approval by the BECE Awards Committee led by Dr. Folake Olatunji David of the Federal Ministry of Education.

Dr. Olatunji commended NECO for what she described as a “seamless administration” of the exams and the prompt release of results. The approval meeting had in attendance secondary school principals from different states as well as NECO officials.

Resit announced

NECO also announced that candidates who failed English Studies or Mathematics will be required to resit those two papers. The resit exams are scheduled to hold on July 23 and 24, 2025, nationwide.

According to Sani, the timetable and further details will be available on NECO’s official website.

Meanwhile, registration for the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External is currently ongoing and will close on September 18.

Only candidates who sat for the internal SSCE within the last five years are eligible to register. Each applicant must have a National Identification Number (NIN), which will be verified at the exam venue. Mismatched or false identity entries will lead to disqualification and prosecution.

The registration fee is ₦40,000, inclusive of all charges. Late registration starting September 19 will attract an extra ₦10,000.

The SSCE External exam will run between September 29 and December 19, 2025.

Candidates must present a signed and stamped photo card at the exam centre. One-time correction of personal data is allowed before the exam begins. Computer-Based Test (CBT) options are also available for those interested, and special-needs candidates are required to indicate their status during registration.
