Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved a set of temporary relief measures for public servants in Ogun State, including a weekly day off and a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance.
The initiative, which will last for three months starting April 2026, is designed to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices and the increasing cost of living, particularly the burden of daily commuting on workers.
According to the Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, eligible workers will be entitled to one day off each week while also receiving the transport allowance throughout the duration of the programme. He explained that the measure is intended to ease financial pressure and improve worker productivity by boosting morale.
However, some categories of employees—such as medical personnel, judicial staff, teachers, security operatives, and top administrative officials—will not participate in the weekly day-off scheme due to the essential nature of their duties. Despite this, they will still benefit from the ₦10,000 transport support.
The government stated that individual Ministries, Departments, and Agencies will determine suitable days off for eligible staff to ensure that public services remain uninterrupted.
Officials have described the intervention as timely, urging workers to respond with increased dedication and efficiency in their duties.
