Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the United Nations on initiatives targeted at youth and women empowerment, particularly in the areas of financial inclusion and job creation.
The Vice President made this known during a high-level meeting with a United Nations delegation, where both parties explored strategies to expand economic opportunities for Nigeria’s rapidly growing population. Central to the discussions was the government’s plan to harness what has been described as the country’s “demographic bulge” and convert it into a productive economic force.
Shettima emphasized that youth development remains a critical pillar of the administration’s policy direction, noting that Nigeria’s large youth population presents both a challenge and an opportunity. He explained that by investing in skills development, entrepreneurship, and access to finance, the government aims to unlock the potential of millions of young Nigerians and women across the country.
The United Nations delegation expressed support for Nigeria’s approach, highlighting the importance of inclusive policies that prioritize vulnerable groups while fostering sustainable economic growth. The delegation also underscored the need for stronger institutional frameworks and partnerships that can drive long-term impact.
Discussions further focused on aligning Nigeria’s development priorities with global frameworks, including efforts to reduce poverty, promote gender equality, and enhance economic resilience. Both sides agreed on the importance of scaling up existing programmes and introducing innovative solutions to address unemployment and social inequality.
The Federal Government reiterated that integrating youth and women-focused strategies into core national policies is essential for achieving lasting development outcomes. With continued collaboration expected, the partnership is seen as a key step toward building a more inclusive and economically empowered society in Nigeria.
