The Federal Government has announced that the Kano–Jigawa–Katsina to Maradi railway project has reached 60 percent completion, marking a significant milestone in one of Nigeria’s major cross-border infrastructure developments.
According to government officials, construction work is progressing steadily across key segments of the route, which links northern Nigerian states to Maradi in Niger. The project is designed to enhance regional trade, improve the movement of goods and passengers, and strengthen economic ties between Nigeria and its neighbouring country.
Authorities reaffirmed that the railway remains on track for completion by late 2027. Once delivered, it is expected to reduce transportation costs, boost agricultural and commercial activities, and open up new economic corridors across the northern region.
The government also highlighted the broader strategic importance of the rail line, noting that it forms part of Nigeria’s long-term plan to modernize its rail infrastructure and improve connectivity within West Africa.
Despite concerns over funding and timelines in previous phases, officials expressed confidence that the project will be delivered as scheduled, with continued investment and oversight ensuring steady progress.
