“Whatever is not good for me is not good for my mother,” Adeboye said.
Foluke Adeboye, wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has shared a personal story about how her Christian faith led her to part ways with her prized gold jewelry.
Speaking during an interview, Adeboye disclosed that she discarded her valuable jewelry by throwing them into a lagoon after she became born again, in line with the doctrines of the church at the time.
According to her, although she once had a strong love for fashion, she gave it up completely when she joined RCCG, where wearing earrings was discouraged.
“Every woman loves fashion. The moment we were born again then in RCCG, it was a taboo for you to have earrings. So everything, I dropped it in the lagoon,” she said.
She explained that the items she disposed of included not only her personal jewelry but also pieces she had prepared for her child.
Adeboye recounted that a friend of her mother questioned her decision, suggesting she could have given the jewelry to her mother to sell instead of throwing them away.
However, she maintained that her actions were guided by her personal conviction, stressing that anything she believed was not good for her could not be considered good for her mother either.
“Whatever is not good for me is not good for my mother,” she added.
Despite the value of the items she gave up, Adeboye said she has no regrets about her decision, noting that she does not miss the jewelry.
