A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has died following an accident involving an operational vehicle during a simulation exercise in Abuja.
The incident occurred during an official training and operational simulation conducted by the corps in the Federal Capital Territory, where personnel were participating in routine preparedness drills aimed at strengthening emergency response capabilities.
Witnesses said the officer was accidentally run over by one of the operational vehicles deployed for the exercise after the driver reportedly lost control while manoeuvring within the training area.
Sources within the corps confirmed that the officer sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility, where she was later pronounced dead.
Confirming the development, NSCDC authorities described the incident as tragic and unexpected, noting that an internal investigation had commenced to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
“This is a painful loss to the corps. The incident happened during a simulation exercise, and efforts were made to save her life after the accident,” an official said.
The corps leadership expressed condolences to the family of the deceased officer, colleagues and the wider security community, stating that safety protocols guiding operational drills would be reviewed where necessary to prevent similar occurrences.
Officials added that simulation exercises remain critical to improving operational readiness but assured that findings from the ongoing investigation would guide future training procedures and safety compliance measures.
The remains of the officer have since been deposited at a medical facility in Abuja, while counselling and support arrangements are being provided for affected personnel.
