The Federal Government has rolled out measures to ease transportation pressure and ensure public safety during the Easter holiday, with increased rail services and heightened security deployments across key states.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) announced special train operations along the busy Lagos-Ibadan corridor, introducing three daily trips to accommodate the anticipated surge in passenger traffic. The move is aimed at providing a reliable and affordable alternative to road travel, which typically experiences heavy congestion during festive periods.
Railway officials stated that the additional services are part of broader efforts to improve customer experience and manage demand efficiently, particularly as more Nigerians turn to rail transport for intercity travel. The Lagos-Ibadan route remains one of the most patronised standard gauge lines in the country, linking commercial hubs and easing movement between the Southwest’s major cities.
In parallel, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intensified security arrangements to ensure a peaceful celebration. In Kwara State alone, over 2,200 personnel have been deployed to strategic locations, including critical infrastructure, worship centres, recreational facilities, and transportation hubs.
State command officials disclosed that the deployment is designed to deter criminal activities, protect lives and property, and provide rapid response to emergencies throughout the holiday period. Surveillance and patrol operations have also been scaled up, with officers placed on high alert.
Authorities have urged travelers to comply with safety guidelines, remain vigilant, and cooperate with security operatives. Citizens were also encouraged to plan their journeys early and make use of available transportation options to avoid last-minute congestion.
The combined efforts of transport and security agencies underscore the government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth, safe, and hitch-free Easter celebration for Nigerians across the country.
