Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City has expelled several students after a viral video showed a student being assaulted and bullied inside a classroom.
The disturbing footage, which circulated widely on social media, shows the victim being flogged, punched, kicked in the stomach and stamped on the head and ribs by fellow students. In a statement released on Friday night, the school’s management confirmed that the students responsible had been identified and expelled following an immediate internal investigation.
The school described the incident as deeply disturbing and said the behaviour violated the institution’s values and standards. According to the statement, the school maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward bullying, cultism, intimidation, harassment and any form of violence within its community.
Management said the safety and wellbeing of students remain the institution’s priority and confirmed that support is being provided to the affected student while the school works closely with the family to address the matter.
The incident has also been reported to authorities, and the school said it is cooperating fully with the police since the students involved are minors. Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command has asked the victim and his parents to come forward and file a formal complaint to enable a proper investigation.
Police spokesperson Eno Ikoedem said authorities had seen the video but require a formal report from the victim’s family before commencing a full investigation into the case.
