The Nigerian Association in New South Wales has commended Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Australia, Ambassador Femi Pedro, for what it described as a positive transformation of the Nigerian mission within his first 100 days in office.
The association, in a statement signed by its President, Mrs Olayinka Fareo, to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, said Pedro had restored confidence, hope and pride among Nigerians in Australia.
Pedro formally commenced his diplomatic assignment on June 23, 2026, after presenting his Letters of Credence to Australia’s Governor-General, Sam Mostyn.
He is accredited to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Solomon Islands and other Oceanic states.
Fareo said the envoy had prioritised diaspora engagement, consular services and citizen welfare since assuming office.
“Ambassador Pedro has not just been a diplomat in Canberra; he has been a father, a listener, and a true leader to the Diaspora,” she said.
According to her, Pedro had opened the doors of the Nigerian High Commission, listened to the concerns of Nigerians and worked to improve consular services.
The association also commended the ambassador’s engagements with the Australian Government, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Austrade and investors in sectors including critical minerals, agricultural technology, education and fintech.
Fareo said Pedro had also promoted unity and inclusiveness among Nigerian associations across Australia, describing his approach as consistent with the federal government’s foreign policy focus on demography, development, diaspora and democracy.
She assured Pedro of the support and partnership of Nigerians in New South Wales as he continues his diplomatic assignment.
“On this Independence Day, NANSW salutes Ambassador Pedro for his exemplary leadership, humility, and statesmanship. In 100 days, he has shown that the Nigeria of our dreams is possible,” she said.
The association also congratulated Nigerians on the 66th Independence Anniversary and expressed hope for a stronger and more united Nigeria.
