The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has unveiled a special Easter train schedule, increasing trips on key routes and introducing a free service to manage the expected surge in passenger traffic during the holiday period.
In a statement on Tuesday, the corporation said the Lagos–Ibadan Train Service (LITS) would operate three trips to ease congestion, with departures from Mobolaji Johnson Station, Ebute Metta, at 7:45 a.m., 1:40 p.m., and 4:00 p.m, while trains from Obafemi Awolowo Station, Moniya, Ibadan, will depart at 8:00 a.m., 10:50 a.m., and 4:30 p.m.
Beyond the Lagos–Ibadan corridor, the NRC announced a special narrow-gauge train service between Lagos and Osogbo, facilitated through a partnership with the Osun State Government.
The service, offered free of charge, will depart Iddo Station, Lagos, on April 3 for Osogbo at 10:00 a.m., with a return trip scheduled for April 6 at the same time.
The corporation said other major routes would maintain their regular schedules. The Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) will continue with two trips on Thursdays and three trips on Fridays through Mondays, covering morning, mid-day and afternoon operations between Idu and Rigasa.
On the Warri–Itakpe corridor, services will run daily except Thursdays, which are reserved for maintenance. Departures from Warri are scheduled for Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays at 8:00 a.m., while trains from Itakpe will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 12:00 noon.
Similarly, the Port Harcourt–Aba service on the Eastern narrow-gauge corridor will maintain its regular timetable, with departures at 8:00 a.m. from Port Harcourt and 3:00 p.m. from Aba.
The NRC assured passengers of safe and reliable operations across all corridors, urging travellers to plan their journeys in advance, arrive early at stations and comply with ticketing and security procedures.
The corporation also extended Easter greetings to passengers, encouraging continued patronage of rail transport as a dependable means of travel.
