President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described Lagos as a “School City,” positioning it as a national model for quality education following the successful remodeling of the Tolu Schools Complex. The declaration was made during the commissioning of the upgraded facility, which has undergone significant transformation to improve learning conditions and expand access to modern educational infrastructure.
The Tolu Schools Complex, located in Ajegunle, was redesigned into a state-of-the-art education hub featuring improved classrooms, digital learning tools, upgraded sanitation facilities, and enhanced safety measures. The project is part of a broader effort by the Lagos State Government to modernize public schools and create an environment that supports both academic excellence and student well-being.
Tinubu commended the Lagos State authorities for sustaining reforms in the education sector, noting that the “School City” vision reflects a commitment to long-term human capital development. He emphasized that investing in education remains central to national growth, adding that Lagos is setting a pace other states can emulate in delivering accessible and high-quality learning.
State officials highlighted that the initiative aligns with ongoing policies aimed at reducing overcrowding in classrooms, improving teacher capacity, and integrating technology into the curriculum. The remodeling of the Tolu Schools Complex is also expected to serve as a pilot for similar upgrades across other public schools in the state.
Education stakeholders and community leaders have welcomed the development, pointing out that improved infrastructure can significantly boost student performance and morale. They also stressed the need for sustained funding, proper maintenance, and continuous teacher training to ensure the long-term success of such projects.
With Lagos now being positioned as a benchmark for educational development, attention is expected to shift toward how the model can be replicated nationwide to address gaps in access, infrastructure, and quality across Nigeria’s education system.
