Wema Bank shines with global award on Purple Academy.
Wema Bank Plc’s training institute, Purple Academy, has emerged as the gold winner of the 2025 Global Council of Corporate Universities (GlobalCCU) Award for ‘Best Corporate University Culture’.
The prestigious award was presented at a ceremony held in Paris, recognising the Nigerian bank’s training institute for its excellence in fostering a vibrant and impactful learning environment.
The award marks a significant milestone for Wema Bank, Nigeria’s oldest indigenous bank and the pioneer of Africa’s first fully-digital bank, ALAT.
This international recognition comes in the same year the bank celebrates its 80th anniversary, reinforcing its legacy as a forward-thinking institution committed to innovation, human capital development and the future of work, the bank said.
Organised biennially, the GlobalCCU Awards is regarded as the gold standard for corporate education worldwide. Celebrating corporate universities that demonstrate measurable value for individuals, businesses, society, and the planet.
For this year’s edition, Purple Academy was shortlisted alongside other leading corporate universities across the globe and stood out for its transformative approach to talent development, strategic alignment with business goals, and commitment to learning innovation.
Launched in 2022 as a corporate university, Purple Academy has quickly established itself as a centre of learning excellence. It provides immersive, personalised development programs designed to equip employees at all levels with the tools to lead, grow, and adapt in a rapidly changing world.
Wema Bank’s Managing Director/CEO, Moruf Oseni, described the win as a powerful validation of the bank’s long-standing commitment to people and learning.
He said: “This win is more than just a global recognition of our learning strategy as a bank; it’s a powerful validation of what we have stood for over the past 80 years.
“Our transformation has always started with our people. Purple Academy is one of our promises in motion to equip every member of our workforce with the tools to grow, lead, and innovate. To be globally recognised in this milestone year is a proud moment for us and everyone who has believed in our journey.”
Founder and Chairman of the GlobalCCU Awards, Annick Renaud-Coulon, described Purple Academy as a model corporate university.
