The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has issued a three-day ultimatum to waste management contractors operating in satellite towns to clear accumulated refuse heaps or face immediate termination of their contracts by Monday.
The directive was issued following complaints over worsening sanitation conditions in several satellite towns, where refuse dumps have reportedly obstructed roads and posed health risks to residents. The minister warned that the administration would no longer tolerate negligence or failure to meet contractual obligations.
Wike was quoted as saying that contractors who fail to restore cleanliness within the stipulated period would have their contracts terminated “without further notice,” stressing that public health and environmental standards must be upheld across the FCT.
He said the ultimatum applies to all contractors responsible for waste evacuation in the affected areas and that enforcement would be swift once the deadline expires. The minister added that monitoring teams had been deployed to assess compliance and report directly to his office.
Residents of satellite towns have repeatedly raised concerns about irregular waste evacuation, especially in high-density communities, prompting renewed intervention by the FCT Administration.
The FCT Administration stated that sanitation remains a priority and assured residents that contractors who demonstrate capacity and commitment would be supported, while those found wanting would be replaced to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment.
