The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has scheduled its national convention for April 14, 2026, as part of a nationwide restructuring process aimed at reorganising the party’s leadership and strengthening its political structures ahead of future electoral contests.
Party officials confirmed that preparations for the convention are already underway, with consultations ongoing across state chapters to ensure broad participation by delegates and stakeholders from across the federation.
According to party sources, the convention will serve as a platform for the election of new national officers and the ratification of reforms intended to reposition the party within Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
A senior official of the party said the decision to convene the gathering reflects the ADC’s commitment to internal reorganisation and renewed engagement with its grassroots structures.
“The national convention is an important step in strengthening the institutional framework of the party,” the official said. “It will provide members the opportunity to collectively determine the direction of the ADC and elect leaders who will drive the party’s vision going forward.”
The move comes amid increasing political activity across opposition parties as preparations gradually begin for the next electoral cycle in Nigeria. Analysts note that smaller political parties have intensified efforts to consolidate their structures in order to expand their national relevance and attract new political actors.
Party leaders said the April 14 convention is expected to review the party’s organisational strategy and adopt measures designed to improve internal cohesion and administrative efficiency across its state and local government chapters.
Another party member involved in the preparations said the restructuring initiative is intended to strengthen the party’s democratic processes and enhance its capacity to participate more effectively in national politics.
“Our focus is to build a stronger and more disciplined political organisation,” the member said. “The convention will allow members to reaffirm their commitment to the party’s ideals and reposition the ADC for greater national impact.”
Observers say the convention could also provide an opportunity for the party to redefine its political messaging and broaden its appeal among voters seeking alternatives within Nigeria’s competitive multiparty system.
Political analysts note that conventions of this nature often play a significant role in shaping party identity, leadership direction and strategic planning, particularly as parties prepare for future electoral contests.
Officials of the ADC said further details regarding delegate accreditation, convention venue and agenda items will be communicated to party members in the coming weeks as preparations for the gathering continue.
