Senate President Godswill Akpabio has asserted that political party divisions in Akwa Ibom State will dissolve by the 2027 general election. He made this declaration during a midterm empowerment briefing held at the Ikot Ekpene township stadium on Friday.
Akpabio, representing the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost its electoral strength, claiming, “The Peoples Democratic Party is in shreds and the umbrella can no longer protect.”
During the event, 1,690 individuals received empowerment items, including minibuses, passenger tricycles, cassava processing machines, generating sets, and cash grants.
Akpabio projected a unified political landscape, stating, “As I speak with you, there is nothing like a political party in 2027 in Akwa Ibom State again. For the Senate of Ikot-Ekpene Senatorial District, all political parties have collapsed to vote for Senator Godswill Akpabio. For the office of the governor in 2027, all political parties have agreed to vote for Governor Umo Eno. Akwa Ibom has moved to vote for President Bola Tinubu, Eno for governor of Akwa Ibom State, and Senator Akpabio for Senate.”
He praised incumbent Governor Umo Eno as “a man of peace” and “a man of God,” contrasting him with those who “professed God with their lips and not their hearts.” He added, “Umo Eno has brought all of us together.”
Akpabio also acknowledged his wife, Unoma Akpabio, for her ongoing empowerment initiatives, noting, “She does it because she knows hunger has no political party. My wife, please feed my people whether I am around or not. Keep on sharing. Akwa Ibom people will show you love soon.”
The empowerment distribution included 30 minibuses, 67 passenger tricycles, 50 cassava processing machines, 347 deep freezers, 247 generating sets, truckloads of 50 kg bags of rice, and cash grants.
Akpabio announced the commissioning of 68 projects in his constituency between Friday, May 16, and Thursday, May 17, 2025.
Earlier, the chairman of Essien Udim Local Government, in his welcome address, commended Akpabio’s dedication to his constituents, stating that Akpabio has remained committed to his people throughout his career as commissioner, governor, and Senate President.
