APC Announces Congress and Convention Date, Extends Membership Registration

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has pushed forward the deadline for its nationwide digital membership registration from January 31 to February 8, 2026, following requests from party members and stakeholders.
Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, announced the extension on Thursday after the 183rd National Working Committee meeting. He emphasised that the decision came in response to appeals from enthusiastic members still working to complete their registration.
The party has also set February 18, 2026, for Ward Congresses across the country, with its National Convention scheduled for March 27-28, 2026.
Four states – Osun, Ekiti, the Federal Capital Territory, and Rivers – will not participate in the upcoming congresses. Morka explained that Osun, Ekiti, and the FCT are exempted due to upcoming elections, with their congresses to follow after those polls. Rivers State recently conducted off-cycle congresses, and those executives remain in office.
National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru rejected claims that the extension reflected poor participation or security concerns, calling the registration exercise “tremendously successful.” He noted that membership numbers have already surpassed previously announced figures.
Both officials confirmed that APC membership has exceeded seven million and could reach 12.5 million by the February 8 deadline. Basiru noted this figure exceeds the population of over 100 countries worldwide.
The party will introduce online applications for congress positions for the first time, marking what Morka described as a significant innovation in the party’s operations.
Registration requires a National Identification Number and Voter Identification Number. While Basiru acknowledged these requirements have created challenges for some, he defended them as essential for legal compliance, data integrity, and ensuring members can actually vote in elections.
The coordinating committee composition for the National Convention will be published on Monday, along with detailed congress schedule adjustments.
